As he prepared to tee off at the 2017 Delta Dental State Open of Virginia, regional favorite Fielding Brewbaker took time out of his schedule to join Delta Dental of Virginia, the Virginia State Golf Association and the Mid Atlantic PGA Section in honoring The First Tee of Roanoke Valley. On July 19th, area children enjoyed a special youth clinic at Ballyhack Golf Club with Brewbaker and Grace Huffman, a rising senior at Rockbridge County High School in Lexington. Huffman was one of three local First Tee members selected to play in this year’s Pure Insurance Championship tournament at Pebble Beach in September.

Brewbaker and Huffman challenged each other to a friendly glass-breaking competition and spent time with close to 100 children visiting from the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA Magic Place and The First Tee of Roanoke Valley. Huffman shared what golf and The First Tee have meant to her and helped accept a $20,000 donation to The First Tee of Roanoke Valley from the Delta Dental State Open of Virginia.

Celebrating 12 years, The First Tee of Roanoke Valley’s primary mission is to provide young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
